What Causes Elevated Eosinophil Count?
Question: I had a blood test on 06/06/2015 which showed my Eosinophil to be 9 which it has mentioned that the normal rate is between 1-6 in percent. I repeated the blood test again on 24/06/2015 and the result came the same but in the new lab test sheet it is mentioned that the normal rate is 1-8. Also the absolute EOS is 0.57 while the normal rate is indicated as 0.00 to 0.50. I had a parasite test as well which was negative and I do not have any allergies. I do not have any visible problem myself. The only medication I use is Pantaperazol every day, and Aspirin every other day. The rest of my CBC is normal. Am I subject to CML? I want to consult with an Oncologist.
Brief Answer:
No this seems pretty much normal
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
I understand your concerns. But one thing is sure, this is not CML. For CML, a high white cell count is must. This much eosinophil is quite normal, even though it may be slightly off range.
As you said, the rest of CBC is normal and you are fine otherwise. So I don't see any cause for concern.
Hope this helps. I will be available for follow-up.

Thanx for the answer. But I would like to know what can be the cause of this or in other words what are the factors involved and what can be done to lower it?
Brief Answer:
Please refer below
Detailed Answer:
Causes for 'high' eosinophil counts are parasitic infestations, allergies and primary blood disorders. But you have none of these and a eosinophil % of 9 when the upper limit is 8 is not 'high' by any means.
hence no intervention to 'lower' these counts is required.
