What Causes Dizziness, Headache And Floaters In The Field Of Vision During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: Hi I am 28 Weeks pregnant and for about 10 days been experiencing constant unsteadiness whether sitting standing walking etc. I have been dx with MAV previously prior to pregnancy. I have experienced mild headaches. I see floaters in my vision. My left ear has made a pop noise. I can't really look down or change movements without feeling dizzy. The only relief I get is laying down and going to sleep. Seems like symptoms get better with sleep then about an hour after waking up the sx set in and are noticeable again. My ears have been checked for inflammation..eyes have been checked. Blood work is all normal except low protein and calcium. Urine is normal. Been drinking 70 oz of water a day. No numbness or tingling in fingers or feet. Any idea what this could be?

I have had MRIs, EEG, EKG, BP checked, ENG, all were normal in the past....please help me!

Brief Answer:
Aura of migraine, blood pressure changes etc.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

By MAV you mean migraine associated vertigo, right?

In this case floaters in your vision and unsteadiness may be explained by aura of the migraine.

Unsteadiness or dizziness also are common problems during pregnancy that may be related to changes in blood pressure, low blood sugar levels, side effects of drugs you use etc.

Since you had normal tests before pregnancy, you shouldn't worry about any serious condition.

I think it is necessary to measure your blood pressure for a couple of days and in different body positions ( laying, sitting and standing ).

Drugs such meclizine and valium also may cause your symptoms as side effects.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

BP have been checked over several days in lying sitting and standing positions all normal. Yes Migraine Associated Vertigo. Blood sugar is good been monitoring for a few days as well. I am on a zofran subQ pump that is the only medication I am taking . How can i treat this so the unsteadiness goes away?

Brief Answer:
Zofran may cause unsteadiness.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

In this case Zofran is known to cause lightheadedness, unsteadiness etc. as side effects.

If it is possible you should stop taking it.

Migraine aura also still remains as a possibility, furthermore, both, Zofran side effects and aura may contribute to your symptoms.

In conclusion, Zofran should be stopped if possible, and preventive treatment about migraine is necessary ( propranolol is a relatively safe drug to use for this purpose during pregnancy ).

Stay good hydrated and have your meals more often and in smaller portions.

Discuss with a Neurologist about the possibility of migraine as a contributor to your symptoms.

Hope I helped you.

Take care.
