Brief Answer:
Make sure the infection is completely cleared by doing a urine culture.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.

I understand your concern.
A bladder infection its more difficult to treat in men then in woman.
I hope that the choice of antibiotic you have used is made under the confirmation of a urine culture.
The symptoms you are talking about can persist some days after an infection has been treated well too, but we also want to make sure that the infection has been actually treated well.

I would advice to continue drinking plenty of fluids because it will help with the symptoms.
Also, its the time to do another urine culture, not only a urine analyse (don't know what you have done to confirm that the urine was clear). if the urine culture is negative, then you don't need to worry about the symptoms you have because they will go away soon...just continue to drink plenty of fluids.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Thank you for your reply! Just a tad more please if you don't mind.

I had a clear urine test but no culture 2 weeks after completing 7 days of cipro and after I experienced these symptoms for the first time. (about 1 week ago). Btw, i didnt have these symptoms with the infection. Maybe a bit of dribble but the first sign i noticed was blood in my urine so i went to the doc immediately. Anyway, about a week ago I saw a doctor and he said I was fine given my clear uribe tes and things should good away when i start sleeping better... Just looking for more reassurance i guess. For more info I had no noticeable symtoms and everything was seeming good after i completed my antibiotics and i was sleeping and urinating great. Then i flew across 12 timezones and experienced really bad jet lag. Was taking restoril, unisom, and melatonin a couple nights i took them all at one point. One night I was determined to figure out why i couldnt sleep so i purposefully dehydrated myself that afternoon so i would have to pee at night. Before that and since the infection i had been drinking a ton of water. Like 12+ glasses a day. That night I tried to make myself go bef bed just to be sure my bladder was empty and I dribbled for the first time and it was obviously concentrated too. From then on i have noticed varying degrees of dribbling, weak stream, and need to urinate. Urine is clear though. I then flew back home which made my jet lag just continue so i've been going on 14+ days of really bad sleep and symtoms are persisting. I think i've developped anxiety over it which is compunding things as well. Just looking for what you think caused the symptoms to go away then come back given what was going on in my life. Thanks!t

Brief Answer:
Possible new UTI. Rule out an sexually transmitted infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the information. I helps a lot the overall viwe of your problem.

From what I understand for your description, looks like the first infection has been cleared and treated well.

Though, the fact that you have symptoms, means that you may have another infection. You do not mention if you have done any tests after the new symptoms started.

Dehydration may trigger a urinary tract infection. So my recommendation would be for you to consider doing again a urine analyse or better a urine culture.

On the other side, urine infection its not common at all in male, unless that have a underlying factor that triggers it.

Have you been sexually active lately? if yes,
when was the last time you have done a sexually transmitted infections check up?

Do you have any discharge, pain in the joints, pain in the back, red eye, or other symptoms that may be related to a STI?

So to summarize, if I was your caring doctor, I would be sure to suggest repeating a urine culture, and also rule out the cause of the urinary infection, and what have triggered it. (most commonly happens combined with a prostatitis, or a STI).

Hope this is helpful.

No other symptoms other than the feeling like i need to use the restroom. The feeling is just in my penis though, no bladder pressure feeling, and no problem holding it for a long time or incontinence. Its just an annoying feeling, like an itch. If i wait to fill my bladder pretty full before urinating, when I go it's a good solid stream with no interruptions etc... Just a bit of dribble at the end and the tickle in my urethra after I'm done. No pain ejaculating either but similar to the tickle after i urinate.

We did a urinalysis the other day which showed trace bood, but one a week earlier was clear. I havent been sleeping well due to jet lag (2-3 hrs a night for 2 weeks) and have really been stressing out over it. Maybe its inflammation due to lack of sleep & stress? It feels like its just in my urethra if I had to pick a spot but theres never been bacteria in my urine for 3 tests now. Since it came on fast after poor sleep and dehydrating myself I hope its just irritation or inflamation vs something more serious. My doctor also did an exam and DRE. No pain or tenderness anywhere in my prostate, kidneys, or bladder and my prostate felt normal he said.

I was freaked out it might be something like cancer (thanks internet!) but he said that it's not and symptoms would not come on suddenly and I'd have persistant symtoms like a constant weak stream etc and he'd be able to feel it if it was bug enough to be causing issues like that. He put me back on CIPRO in case its chronic prostatitis and I'm seeing a urologist in a couple weeks.

Any thoughts to what it might be? Doc kinda think stress and lack of sleep is playing a big role and may have inflamed my still healing urinary tract.

Brief Answer:
Dehydration or stress do not cause blood in the urine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up question.
Appologies for the late reply.

Stress or dehydration does not cause blood in the urine even if it is in low quantities.

Cancer is of course an option, but we have to rule out other more possible causes.

Make sure to go see again your doctor, or repeat the urine analyse of urine culture.
If you have been sexually active, keep in mind to do a STI testing and rule out those infections as well.

Continue drinking fluids.
If symptoms persist, you need to see your doctor for sure, because even if they are mild, those are not common symptoms in a male.

Feel free to write me again if any concern.
