What Causes Discomfort In Throat While Eating When Diagnosed With Acid Reflux?

Posted on Sat, 18 Jun 2016
Question: Hi,i have been diagnosed with acid reflux and panick attacks.I have been getting this really odd feeling recently, like something is being pushed up my throat . Doent feel like liquid as such, sometimes when i eat, even bland food i get this really tickly dusty feeling that seems to react even more so with the food im eating. Then the feeling passes. It feels like an allergy, but its not because the doctor gave me anti histamines, thinking it was an allergy ,but later confirmed it wasnt . Other times my throat aches,my tongue can feel on fire etc. My chest can feel tight ,like my lungs are full of dust.Tingly feeling in mouth.Any ideas what it can be as it keeps coming and going.I dont have allergies or asthma, had my lungs checked 4 times and they were fine and my blood tests only showed a low in Vitamin D.

Brief Answer:
GERD

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about chest pressure and throat symptoms with eating. All your symptoms that you describe are all related to the GERD. GERD is when acid burns the esophagus. This can come while eating or after eating or at night while laying flat. I can feel like a lump in your throat to a burning of the mouth and tongue. The reason for the different feelings is that way the brain interprets the pain signals from the esophagus.

To help stop your feeling you need to take Nexium on an empty stomach in the morning and then eat 30 minutes later. If you do not follow those instructions then your medicine is not going to work properly. Also take the ranitidine once or twice daily as directed with or without food.

Also elevate the head of your bed to allow acid to stay down while sleeping, Lose weight if you are overweight, do not over eat and avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages. These lifestyle changes may help reduce your symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Burping is part of the whole GERD symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Yes the burping is all related to your GI problems. To help reduce the gas build up you could try using simethicone. These are chewed tablets that break up gas.
