Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (35 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Pelvicalyceal system not dilated means both kidneys are normal

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
As a radiologist I do ultrasound scans regularly.

1. The kidney has a collecting system through which the urine formed in the kidney is collected and transported from the kidney to the urinary bladder by tubular structures called ureters.

2.The collecting system of the kidney begins with calyces that continue as renal pelvis and beyond that it continues as the ureter.

3. The calyces and renal pelvis are together called the pelvicalyceal system of kidney.

4. In normal people the pelvicalyceal system is not dilated.

5. When there is stone in kidney or ureter then the pelvicalyceal system might appear dilated due to obstruction in the passage of urine.

In conclusion, if pelvicalyceal system is not dilated in both kidneys then it is normal.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.

My prostate gland is enlarged (47 gms) is it curable by medicine or by surgery

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (23 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You have grade II prostate enlargement, surgery if severe urinary symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

At 47 grams, you have moderate benign prostate enlargement. It is important to know if this is the first time you got the prostate scan done or if it was known to you earlier. The post void residual urine volume in ultrasound scan is also important.

In most people, if it is the first time that prostate enlargement has been detected and if the post void residual urine volume is not significant then medicines can be tried for 3 to 6 months.

If there is acute urine retention with severe difficulty in passing urine then surgery is advised. Present days there is TURP surgery and success rate is high.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
