What Causes Difficulty Breathing Inspite Of Suffering From Pulmonary Hypertension?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: hi two years ago I was diagnosed with mild pulmonary hypertension. my pressure was at 38. I worried for the next 6 months and went back for another ekg-echo and they went down to 32. I am not scheduled for another until march but recently like a month ago had bronchitis. about two weeks ago my lung started feeling very constricted. I start worrying and my whole chest starts feeling like I cant breathe. when I lay down and relax or Rey to my right lung feels better but if I get up and move around it starts feeling constricted again. I am 5'5 and recently put on put on 40lbs in 6 months. my mom passed away. I'm up to 220. I'm just wondering if this is from my pulmonary hypertension. I scared I'm dying. just worried about my right
lung and why it's so tight.

Brief Answer:
Not likely to be due to pulmonary hypertension.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Pulmonary hypertension can cause a shortness of breath, chest tightness, fatigue, swelling in the legs, bluish discoloration of lips, etc but it is more prominent during any kind of activity rather than lying down.
The symptoms that you are having can be due to stress and anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, etc. The appearance of symptoms with rest is more likely associated with anxiety.
To help this problem you can take a few measures-
1.Check your caffeine intake-Avoid drinking too much tea, coffee or cola.
2.Avoid alcohol and cigarette smoking.
3.Try physical exercise like aerobic exercises daily for twenty minutes.
4.Avoid your worries and problems or solve them with the help of your family and friends.
5. Learn controlled breathing.
6. Do simple relaxation exercises like yoga, meditation, etc.
You can also discuss the problem with your GP who will help you in choosing a good antianxiety drug with low day time sedation.
In case the problem is persistent then do consult your physician for a detailed examination.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
