What Causes Delayed Period With Lower Back Pain And Headaches?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Sep 2014
Question: hi,
am 38 years old. My periods were due on 19th August and have not started yet. I did a pregnancy test and it was negative. am having lower back pain. I have also had continuous headaches lately. I work out three times a week under the supervision of a personal trainer. I also noticed a lot of hair loss last month. My menses were very light the last time they came. Is this pre-menopause? I've not had a child yet. If it is pre menopause is there a way I could be helped to reverse this so that at least I have a baby?

Brief Answer:
Your problem needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Secondary amenorrhoea - when you missed at least 2-3 months period.
In your case you should watch next 2-3 months cycle.
Meanwhile you need investigations to rule out the cause.
There are so many causes of your problem but in my opinion most common causes in your case-
- Hyperprolactaenemia- increase prolactin level( most common due to pituitary tumor) advice CT scan head and prolactin level.
- hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism- thyroid profile
- premature menopause- it is due to premature ovarian failure ( go for hormonal test)
-strenuous exercise, stress, excessive weight loss
Premature menopause sometimes reversible also with early treatment and you can conceive naturally.
So in my opinion first you should consult a gynaecologist and go for your routine test and ultrasound pelvis to see the cause.
If cause find out then took treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
