Question: I'm about 9 weeks pregnant my children are fighting a cold. I have congestion with a cough, chest and back pain, headache and body aches. No fever though, but tonight I started vomiting up foamy mucus and am having a harder time breathing (getting enough breathe when I inhale). Is this something I should be concerned about or can it wait as I have a appointment in 3 days with my OB.

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics needed if breathing is difficult.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The symptoms that you have are MOSTLY related to Seasonal Changes. Viral infection and allergen particle are also responsible for the same.

I suggest to keep observing the pattern of other clinical symptoms like fever, sore throat, earache, joint pain shortness of breath etc. In that case, you must visit to a doctor for clinical examination and complete prescription. Short course of antibiotic may be required for complete treatment. You can wait for 3 days if the symptoms improve with warm saline gargles and steam inhalation.

Baby is WELL PROTECTED inside womb and there will be NO harmful effects from mother's common cold and running nose at this stage.

Some basic home remedies can improve your condition and prevent recurrence:

a) Drink plenty of water or fruit juice to stay hydrated and keep throat moist.

b) Inhale steam or use saline nasal spray to ease nasal congestion and drippy nose.

c) Stay away from household dust, pollens, powders, droplets, smoke, allergen substances etc.

d) Take one teaspoon honey & tulsi juice in the morning or hot drink like milk at bed time is quite helpful.

e) Take hot shower bath, sleep with an extra pillow under head and vitamin-C supplements are very much essential.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
