What Causes Constipation Post A Laser Bladder Stone Surgery?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Mar 2016
Question: I had laser removal of a bladder stone surgery on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Since then I have not been able to move my bowels. I have tried Miralax powder, Fleet liquid suppositories and fleet glycerin suppositories and Doc-O-Lace 100 mg capsules. Also Colace stool softener. Nothing has worked. I feel very stuffed with stool. What can I do so that I can move my bowels. I am a 72 year old male.

Brief Answer:
Get a xray abdomen in standing position

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.

Decreased or absent bowel movements can be there after any surgery. It happens because of paralytic ileus.

So I will suggest you to get a xray abdomen in standing position to see for that. If it is there then visit your doctor. And if there is no paralytic ileus then I will suggest you to get a proctoclysis enema. And take lots of fluids and fibres in your diet. And once stool is passed you may take Miralax powder on sos basis.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
