Brief Answer:
Possible acute gastroenteritis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Before running into final conclusions, I'd like to have more of your medical data:
- when did the diarrhea appear?
- have you eaten any special food prior to diarrhea?
- are you having cough, sneezing or flu-like symptoms other than low fever and constant headache?

From what you are reporting, it seems to be a viral gastroenteritis. However, other causes should be ruled out first as mentioned above.

I advise to:
- drink plenty of fluids (water, juice, tea, etc.)
- take tasectan or pepto bismol for the diarrhea
- take O.R.S to prevent dehydration
- take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- take antacids to normalize the pH of stomach
- take acetaminophen for the fever and headache

If the abdominal pain will persist, should consult your doctor as you might need further prescription drugs (buscopan, etc.).

Wish fast recovery!
Looking forward to have the requested medical data!

Thank you...we have been doing every thing you said except for the pepto bismol...never heard of tasectan, but will look it up. How about lotomil or kaopectate....we already have amoxicillin 500...will that work?? The pain and fever seems to have subsided but that "blah" loopy feeling is there...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

I am glad to hear that I was of help.

You can use kaopectate (bismuth subsalicylate) if you cannot find tasectan at your local pharmacy. I do not advise to take lomotil (Diphenoxylate
Atropine) as we are not sure about the type of diarrhea.

Meanwhile, usually, I prescribe Ciprofloxacin or Flagyl in such cases to be sure of success. Amoxicillin is commonly associated with diarrhea, and I am afraid that it would make it worst. However, you can wait and see before making other changes.

Wish fast recovery!
