Posted on Thu, 6 Nov 2014
Question: Hello, yes there is a question. I was wondering what may be a diagnostic for my symptoms. For awhile, months now, I've had burning sensation when done urinating and sometimes just in general in the tip. Been tested few times already this year and was clear. What could it be? Also uti has been negative. Is this normal? Have done research and some say they've had it for years.

Brief Answer:
Proper investigations and examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Many times research can be misleading, they would not have been seen by a specialist or not investigated or tried something haphazardly. Medical field is evidence based.

I would suggest you the following as per your history burning sensation and clear tests. This is not normal. There has to be a reason for your symptoms.

This is called Urethritis ::
The cause may be inflammation of the urethra, or some structural changes inside the urethra not allowing you to get symptoms-free.
The best way is to go for the diagnosis first and then to get a proper treatment.
You have to consult an Urologist ( Surgical Specialist). He will do a Direct examination, palpation to see if there is nodularity in the urethra, condition of the urethral opening.
Urethro-cystoscopy is an endoscopic examination- direct visualization of the internal parts.
Tests : of blood/ Urine- routine, microscopy, culture and sensitivity.
The treatment will be based on the report.
Ultrasonography of the abdomen for urinary system as a whole.

All these investigations gives a correct diagnosis to go for the proper plan for the treatment.

In the meanwhile you can take plenty of oral fluids- water in particular. The idea is to take maximum allowable quantity at one go so that kidney filter more urine at one go to have a flushing effect.

So a proper diagnosis and investigation is most important to get the exact diagnosis to get the best available treatment.

Please mention about your sex life if you can to see whether is is related to it.

I hope this answer helps to take you in a proper direction.

Have a great day.
