Question: Last night as I was getting ready for bed I felt a burning sensation when I went to use the bathroom. I felt I might have the beginning of a urinary tract infection. I am past menopause but this morning I urinated blood. So I am just wondering what is going on?

Brief Answer:
Diagnosis: Urinary tract infection, ureteric stones

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Pain with blood in urine is suggestive of two possibilities- Urinary tract infection and ureteric stones. At times, both can be co-existent too.
Urine analysis, culture and Xray of kidney, ureter, the bladder can confirm the diagnosis.
If infection is present Nitrofurantoin (antibiotic) will be started. Management of ureteric stones depends on its size and is usually with drinking plenty of fluids and diuretics.

Please be advised to follow-up with the urgent care for required evaluation.
Meanwhile, drink plenty of water and take Tylenol for pain.

Hope this answers your question
