What Causes Burning Sensation On Leg While Tilting The Neck?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014
Question: Hi, was experiencing significant lower back pain that was followed by burining sensation in the left leg. My doctor advised for X-ray that showed tilted L5 (2mm). After, taking some medication for infrlamation and vitamin B, the burning sensation went away. In the meantime, I've been doing physical therapy - however last week this sensation came back - that is now really emphasised when I tilt my neck. Is there a connection with this? Should I approach another doctor? Can it be more seriouse than just the tilt between L5 and L4? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
MRI is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

An X-ray is a good test for fractures detection. However it does not say anything about spinal cord condition. Your symptoms are most likely caused by some compression on the spinal cord due to spine disc herniation. So yes, this can be more serious than what was described in the x-ray
I suggest you to consult orthopedist and have spine MRI done. If physical therapy is not helping, surgery might be necessary.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Thanks for your answer. I will ask for a spinal cord MRI.

I would just like to add that this feeling is strange and seems to me that is mechanical in nature. It starts when I sit down (all the day at the office) and/or when I tilt my neck. If I straighten my spine and tilt my neck the burning feeling is existent.

Potentialy, is this something that comes with spine disc herniation?

Brief Answer:
.

Detailed Answer:
This is quite typical for spine disc problems. Please note that the problem may be in the upper spine part (like thoracic or even cervical). The spine is connected and some problem in upper part can give pain in lower part. Changing the position can cause the pain (as the nerve gets more compressed).
So yes, all this can be caused by disc herniation.
