What Causes Bruising And Bleeding After Taking Clopidogrel And Aspirin?

Question: I am a 76 year old female 5'6" 160lbs. I used to have high blood pressure. I would sometimes be in the ER with 225/125. I have had stints in both carotid and 1 in my heart LAD a couple years ago. I now am on Lisinipril/HCTZ 20-25 MG, Pantoprazole 50 MG, Synthroid 75MCG, in the AM with Atorvastatin 40 MG, Clopidogrel 75MG, Ecotrin 325 MG, and Norvasc 5MG in PM. I bruise and bleed rather easily and do not feel much like eating. Today I was so tired & BP was 83/41. After a few hours it got up to 98/48. I was pretty useless of doing anything active. So tired frequently. Any thoughts?

Hi there my dear,

Bruising and bleeding easily is side effect of using Clopidogrel and Aspirin.

You are also having low blood pressure. It might be related to:
- anti-hypertensive drugs you are using
- eating less as you do not have appetite
- possible sign of any source of internal bleeding

I highly suggest to monitor your blood pressure, record the readings and pass them to your doctor as future reference.

Further blood work is needed to evaluate your platelet account and possible anemia. Please schedule an immediate appointment with your cardiologist as you need to change drugs and/or related doses.
