Posted on Mon, 7 Mar 2016
Question: I noticed a large 1" by 2" lump on the left side of my perineum close to my anus. It just appeared about 2 days ago and it is uncomfortable to sit. I am having no problems urinating or defecating.

Brief Answer:
Probably furuncle, take oral and topical antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic

According to your complaints it seems you have developed a furuncle.
It is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle.

If I were your treating doctor I would recommend you to start with oral antibiotics like AMOXICILLIN and CLAVULANIC Acid combination 625 mg twice daily for 7 days along with topical antibiotic like Mupirocin cream to be applied on the affected area twice daily till the lesion heals.

If the lump causes pain I recommend my patients to take painkillers like tablet Diclofenac or Ibuprofen.

These medicines are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

Wish you speedy recovery.

Dr Asmeet

would I see any redness? I do not have any discoloration, my wife says it does not look like an infected hair follicle, but of course she is not a doctor. :)

Welcome back to HCM

It is not necessary that you will have the redness.
I would recommend you to upload a picture of the lump to confirm the diagnosis.

Can't appreciate the lump, can see slight redness

I can't appreciate the lump as the picture is not very clear but I can see slight redness in the surrounding skin.
