What Causes A Painful Lump In The Perineum?

Question: I have a lump under skin in the perineum area. It is lightly painful at times but not always. It's embarrassing to say anyone. Please advise.

I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

By perineal area, do you mean it is in the scrotal area or even below (between scortum and anal canal) ?

How big is it ? is it painful to touch ?

Is it soft/firm/hard ?

Is it movable ?

Does it increases in size when you strain/cough ? If you haven't noticed it, do check it once..

Any problem passing urine/motion ?

Any other problem (related to this, in past/present) ?

Please note that there's at least 10 different causes for lump in that region (starting from a simple sebaceous cyst to lymph node, hernial swelling and several others)..

The fact that it's slightly painful at times, needs to be examined thoroughly by a Surgeon/Urologist in person..it's primarily a surgical problem so please consult with the Surgeon/Urologist (whomever is easily accessible for you).. now your going to discuss regarding health concerns with the respectable doctor only, so there's nothing to feel embarrassed, just schedule the necessary appointment and thorough clinical examination of the area and/ a few relevant investigations accordingly(a CBC and/ Ultrasonography of the lump )..

Location: Its located below, close to anal region.

Size: How big is it ?
About one inch and half inch I guess.

is it painful to touch ?
Normal touch is not painful but painful when any pressure is applied.

Is it soft/firm/hard ?
Pretty firm or I may call it Hard.

Is it movable ?
Not really.

Does it increases in size when you strain/cough ? If you haven't noticed it, do check it once..
Its gradually increasing in size but yes I believe its the strain thats making it bigger.

Any problem passing urine/motion ?
No problems.

Any other problem (related to this, in past/present) ?
None

Question: I am in dilemma whether to consult a Surgeon or a Urologist? Perhaps my answers above would help you confirm me with these options.

Thanks for following up with these details..

Now, as per the description, it can be an epidermoid cyst/ sebacious cyst/ perianal Abscess (most likely) / or even be a bulged vein/ lymph node/ hemorrhoid (unlikely) etc.

Yes, now that you've clarified further, the General Surgeon would be the first choice in this regard, and please don't delay any more, as it may require a course of antibiotics after the clinical examination..

I'd really appreciate if you can upload/attach a few snapshots of it, as it'll help me to look at it much closely (it's a difficult area to capture, so even if you can't it's okay, just get yourself examined as mentioned)..
