Brief Answer:
how much a day ?

Detailed Answer:
if you are back onto the lower dose why is there detox?
oxycodone is a short acting medicine and all ill effects occur within the day you take it. The withdrawal occurs with lowering the dose, but it is within 1-3 day.. generally more like 1 day if it is going to occur.
Best, is to go into your regular doctor (perhaps in the context of not taking any for 3 days) and telling them exactly what happened. Lying WILL get you blacklisted. Being off meds. Using them responsibly. will not.
And.... while personally I've more patients who've been hospitalized by them than from narcotics... aspirin like drugs are generally more effective for toothache (there's a trick to that).
Certainly it is a very bad idea to double up on pain meds prior to chatting with the doctor. and I think you could arrange (by being honest) to walk back from it.

Hello Dr.,
It doesnt seem that you were listening to me. I just want to stop taking the oxycodone period. My main concern as i said before is if I go in for inpatient detox will my insurance company refuse to give me pain meds in the future should i need them. this is not the first time I have taken the med. I had a hysterectomy took it, no problem finished the prescription and that was it. Also when i had the lump removed from my breast again no problem...when ii was discovered that it had gone onto my spine, and i needed chemo, thats when i took it again, there was 7 yrs between the lump and the metastasis. This occured because of FEAR and pain so i took it while on chemo, you seem to assume that i am going to lie? why? I only came here because i didn't want that type of reaction...I would just like to know if i ask for in patient detox, will i be blacklisted if i need future medicine for my illness by my insurance company..could you please address that question, because i want to go to the detox but i want to know the insurance company's possible actions concerning medication if i do so..you also asked how much i take, it is 20 mg daily of oxycodone thank you, i really need an answer im very depressed over the entire thing.

Hello Dr
Im sorry if i did not make myself clear I have been taking the med since 7/11 i have only taken 20 mg daily for quite a while. Last week, i had the toothache, and that is when i took additional meds, i was really sick, i took about 40mg per day in two doses or three... now i am back to 20 mg a day, and i have felt no withdrawl but i dont want to take it at all. I have no desire to be dishonest. I cannot fool myself. Im concerned because of the cancer that if i go into a detox, i may be blacklisted when any cancer pain comes...if i wasnt afraid of being labled and being allowed to suffer if it comes to that i would run to detox, or is 20mg daily too little to be accepted there what will occur if i just stop, I'm just afraid andasking for a little advice and compassion thanks very much I will wait on your answer...God bless you.

Brief Answer:
yes, exactly

Detailed Answer:
First, be honest with everyone.
and second, 20 mg a day (assuming you are taking it every day. It wasn't clear) is a real stretch to whether you'll be able to get into detox. I hate to say it, but because your insurance is likely better than most of those in detox, that may influence people toward having you in detox. And.... the withdrawal from 20 mg is generally borderline noticeable except for the pain coming back, which is a real concern.
First, you are really stretching the bounds of the definition of addiction; you aren't drug seeking, you are honest, you are on literally the lowest amounts you can get, you don't so far mention much to say you are drug dependent, you don't do things to yourself that are harmful to get drugs.
Second. Although you could reasonably want to have a different drug for pain other than narcotics (consider ultram if it is effective; it is weaker as a narcotic and it's duration is about twice as long; not for everyone), you don't necessarily have a compelling need to do that under supervision although your personal doctor would be a much better judge on that.
Third... the blackballing. Well.... yes, you will have at least a little of that. If someone says they didn't have a good response to band-aids, I wouldn't give them band-aids. They aren't exacly blacklisted on it. So, if previously you didn't like oxycodone, I'd hesitate to give it to you again. Not as an addict, just as a patient.
