Question: Last night I "touched" myself I figured it would incourage the flow of my period to pick up because its been slow and light since I got acute bronchitis. Well this morning a lot did come out when I went to the bathroom but it had a very foul smell. Should I be concerned.

Brief Answer:
its not a good practice

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.

In my opinion fingering into vagina is not a good practice not only during menstruation but also during usual days.

There is no such thing that fingering increases bleeding. It might be a coincidence for you.

Fingering might introduce infection into genital tract leading to genital tract infections.

Usually the ph in the vagina is acidic which prevents the growth of infective organisms. But during menstruation the ph becomes alkaline and natural protective mechanism is lost.

So there is more risk of infection during menstruation.

Bad odour of discharge might be due to infection.

But if there is no fever you might not worry.

Consult a gynaecologist if:-
1)Any fever develops.
2)Any irregular or continuous bleeding or spotting.
3)Any pain abdomen.
4)If any altered discharge occurs rather than usual blood.

My aim is not to make you tense dear I am giving you information and probable conditions.

Dont worry if at all any infection develops you might need a course of antibiotics after examining you.

So relax.And take care.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Good luck...Dr.srilatha

Well I'm already taking zythromax. For my bronchitis. My flow has already been unusually low it slowed down again should I just wait till I'm done with my medication to see how my period is

Brief Answer:
Don't intervene and wait till period is done... finish the antibiotics..

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your information.

In my opinion don't intervene and see till the period is finished.

As you are on Zythromax it will act against on bacteria sensitive to it if any are there.

And in case of mild infection body will have natural immune mechanism to fight against it.

As I already said if any fever or abdominal pain or irregular spotting or bleeding you can have consultation.

If this is for first time you have less bleeding
you can just leave it without any intervention.

But if this continues like minimal spotting or bleeding in further cycles you might need thyroid hormone estimation to rule out any thyroid abnormality.Because scanty bleeding is seen in them.

So relax. Don't worry. If at all any abnormality is detected with apprpriate treatment it will subside.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Good luck...Dr.Srilatha
