Unusual Periods, Was Told That Chances Of Conceiving Are Slim. What Is Wrong With Me?

default

Question: Hi there.
I have a question about my periods.
Firstly, I usually get my period between the 3th to 6thh of every month.
I got my period on the 6th of July, I then got it again on the 18th of July, and then again on the 4th of August. This period is very unusual, very heavy and lots of clots. Both large and small.
I am quite worried. I had my son 6 months ago, and I am hoping for more children, but because I was told before my son that my chances of conceiving are quite thin, I would love to know whats going on. My period is usually very regular. For me to have my period three times in two months is very uncommon.
Is there something wrong with me? I would like more children in the future and I am starting to feel like that will be impossible.

hi,
Thanks for the query.

the possible causes for your irregular periods are,

-if you are not using any contraceptive method there is possibility for pregnancy, then the bleeding on 18th could post-ovulatory bleeding and the bleeding on 4th could be possibly due to miscarriage.

-irregular bleeding can occur due to hormonal imbalance,
in case of progesterone deficiency these type of menstrual irregularities can be seen because of defect in endometrial development.
in anovulatory cycles also excessive bleeding can be seen sometimes.

so to find out the cause you once consult gynecologist and undergo physical examination, ultrasound examination and if she suggests hormonal evaluation for estrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH, thyroid hormones etc.

by this primary workup the possible cause can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly.
when you conceived once and had one child there is possibility that you can have pregnancy in future also, generally with proper approach the abnormalities in the menstruation are treatable and may not affect future fertility much.
as at present you are 18 years old only, better to wait for few more years for second pregnancy.
