Brief Answer:
Good decision, can stop suddenly or gradually depnding on quantity

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for writing to us.

I really appreciate your decision to quit smoking. The best step for good future health.

You can stop smoking cold turkey with strong determination if you are taking not more than since 10-12 months and not more than 3-4 cigarets per day.
But if you are taking more in quantity and for more duration, you may have some withdrawal features depending upon amount of smoking. In that case you can stop smoking gradually with help of some medicines like bupropion, propranolol and low dose benzodiazepines. Psychiatrist/deaddiction specialist can help for the same.

Normally no specific test is needed. Chest x ray and spirometry(breathing tests) may be useful if you have any symptoms related to breathing.

Revert back to me with following details :

Beginning, Duration, type and frequency of smoking.

Any other substance use is there or not?

Any physical problem at present?

I will be happy to help further,

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
