Suggest Ways To Manage Anxiety About Health

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Apr 2017
Question: I am trying to conquer health anxiety, and I would like to approach it from all angles (that I can do myself). And, of course, I hope they help maintain health. I would like to ask about the supplements I have been taking for a while now. (I have taken vitamins and supplements in the past, and I have settled on these as being safest as I have learned more.) For example I like Folate (As metafolin®‚ L-5-MTHF) rather than folic acid that I took in the past.

Can you tell me if I am on the right track with these?

Is it a good idea to take probiotics regularly for general health? I was taking a fraction of the recommended amount (only one of the recommended 3 to 9 capsules), and they lasted a long time. When they ran out, I tried another brand which is one a day, so they don't last that long.

I take Multi t/d:

Other Ingredients:

And finally....I take
MEGA FOOD Healthy Bone (4 tablets recommended. I take 2 a day)

If you think it is good to take probiotics, can you recommend any specific one?

CORRECTION: For the Multi t/d I take half that amount since I take one a day, not two.

Brief Answer:
Still this is exaggerated supplements for the following vitamins and minera

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, I want you to make sure that these values are written for the 2 tablets together and not only one ..
if the values are written for the 2 tablets together then :
you still take too much of the following: biotin, vitamin b 12 , b 6, vitamin c , niacin , chromium , vitamin e, pantothenic acid and selenium
I recommend that you do not take it daily, I recommend you take it 3 times per week.. I hope I answered your question

The values are for TWO. On the bottle I have, the amount is half of what I posted from the Internet. So many multi-vitamins have much more than the RDA, and I don't think the ones I take (half of what they recommend on the bottle) exceed the upper limit. Do you think these have done me any harm? I have health anxiety to start with, and I was feeling better with the help of some experts here, and now I am starting to get anxious again thinking I have done harm to myself with these vitamins.

I also understood that the B vitamins on the list being water-soluble did not harm to take more than the RDA.

Brief Answer:
The values you take are not harmful at all

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, there is no need to get anxious
the values you are taking does not exceed the upper limit of permitted doses
the values you are taking will no do you any harm as they are within the range of permitted doses
I have posted for you the average recommended doses that the body needs per day
this means that for example as for vitamin c, your body needs 90 mg per day . if you take less there will be harm, if you take more there will be no harm and no good as well , provided you do not exceed the upper limit.
this means that you take more than your body needs , it won't do you harm but won't do you any extra good either.
that is why I recommended that you take it 3 times weekly
I hope you find this helpful, if you have any more clarifications please feel free to ask further

Riboflavin: 17.35 mg
Niacin: 37.5 mg.
B6: 10.4 mg.

I was also taking an extra B12 (500 mcg.) in addition to the above. I read that there is no upper limit on it, and I thought it might help with anxiety. Was this OK??

Brief Answer:
This values are great except calcium , vitamin d

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, all these values are sufficient and not exceeding the maximum levels except for
1) calcium and vitamin d , so it is good that you are taking extra calcium supplement . also you will need to be exposed to sunlight for half an hour 3 times per week ( sunlight before 11 o'clock )
2) the maximum limit of niacin is 35 mg, you are taking 37.5 mg .. this is a very little increase which is also accepted
3) b12 daily dose is 3 mcg but there is no maximum limit for it. so I agree with the extra supplement of 500 mcg as it helps the integrety of nerve cells, provide mental energy , increase ability to concentrate , booster memory and have a calming effect against anexity and also balance the mood.
I hope I answered your question .

Thank you for your clarification. For niacin at 37.5, this is nothing to worry about because it is not very much over the limit?

To make matters worse, I am remembering that many years ago, I took a separate B Complex along with a multi both containing niacin or niacinamide. Would the past use of this high amount put me at risk for liver problems years later?

Thank you for the clarification, Dr. Shoman. I was anxious about my last question, and since you weren't on line, I received reassurance about my fears from another doctor He told me that I had absolutely nothing to worry about regarding past higher use.
