Question: I am a 65 year old male very active tennis player, 5-6 days a week is South XXXXXXX I wear compression shorts to prevent hamstring injuries but a side effect in our extremely hot summer has been extreme perspiration and a resultant skin yeast infection in the genital and inner thighs. My MD has me on a second course of Fluconozole and instructed to use Lamisil topically and of course to follow proper hygiene.
My question is is there a way to pre-treat the area just before playing tennis with Lamisi or Desenex spray or powder or would that just make things worse.

Brief Answer:
Wear cotton underwear/pants;keep area well dry with powder as following...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

1. Skin yeast infection is often precipitated by heat and sweating.

2. Keeping good local hygiene, and keep the place well dry can be preventive measures.
I always advise my patients to wear cotton underwear and pant.

Powder is effective in keeping the area dry. Can choose powder that is specifically designed for yeast infection.

3. With regards to other treatment (like topical lamisil or desenex spray); they can't be used everytime you see it's appropriate. They are part of a complete treatment. Usually advised to use twice daily; or as prescribed by your doctor.

4. Anti-fungal shampoo containing clotrimazole or ketoconazole can also be used at least thrice a week until improvement.

Hope it answered to your queries!
