Suggest Treatment For Tingling Sensation In The Left Hand

Posted on Fri, 17 Feb 2017
Question: last night I started having an uncomfortable feeling on the left side of my chest and a slight tingling in my left arm and hand. I thought it might be gas, so I took XXXXXXX seltzer and drank some coke. both relieved the symptoms by about half. I went to bed with the same symptoms, and was uncomfortable most of the night. I now have a soreness in my left chest and back that corresponds to the same area. I still have tingling in my left hand and now also in my right.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to gastro-esophageal reflux.

But the numbness in both your arms can also be explained by an electrolyte imbalance.

I would like to know if deep breathing and cough exacerbate your chest pain. What about body movements?

This would indicate possible musculo-skeletal pain.

I recommend taking acetaminophen 500mg. If it help relieve your symptoms it would indicate musculo-skeletal pain.

It is also necessary taking Zantac or omeprazole to help in case of reflux.

If your problems persist, I recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and some tests:

- a chest X ray study
- a resting ECG
- complete blood count
- blood electrolytes
-PCR, ESR.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

Thank you, Dr. Please disregard first follow up. I needed to refresh computer. Pain is exacerbated with deep breathing, but not with coughing. I forgot to mention that I did take 650 mg of Tylenol and it did help. From what you say, sounds musculo-skeletal. What can cause that? Did not exercise or hurt anything that I remember. However, was mush less active than usual. Did not work that day and read and watched TV much more than usual.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Yes, it seems to be a musculo-skeletal pain.

But, I would also recommend checking your blood electrolytes, because an electrolyte imbalance could be responsible for the numbness in your arms.

The musculo-skeletal pain may be related to inflammation or just a light flue.

It does not seem to be anything concerning.

I recommend continue taking Tylenol three times daily for some days.

If the problem persists or gets worse, I recommend consulting with your doctor and performing the above recommended tests.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing good health,

Dr. Iliri
