Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Causalgia

Question: I had shingles last XXXXXXX I am now 88 years old. Since that time my right hand has frozen up. I had surgery with a doctor and he relieved the carpal tunnel in the wrist. I have been on neurotoxin which helped at first but then started causing more problems with my hand. I had a closed manipulation of the hand last week and he put a splint on. My fingers were very red and after the numbing wore off I couldn't touch anything. I have been going to rehab with minimal results. Thursday and Friday of last week I did well but the hand is swelled again and the joints are stiff. There is a slight rash. I can't move the fingers much at all and the fingers are numb like when the get real cold. No one can seem to figure out what is going on and get me any relief. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi there

Thanks for the query

You could be suffering from Complex regional pain syndrome Type II also known as Causalgia.

It can baize the above mentioned symptoms. It is seen. As a complication of Carpal tunnel release in 8.3% cases.

This can be diagnosed by Thermography.

It would be best to get Physiotherapy in the form of Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), Bisphosphonate therapy.
