Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Feet Along With High BP
Question: For the last 7 days I have had trouble with swelling feet and ankles. My blood pressure is normally about 130 but today its about 160. I am female,72 years old. Is this a situation in which I should get immediate (ER) care or is a regular appointment with my physician adequate?
Brief Answer:
ER visit is preferred...
Detailed Answer:
From what I understand you have pedal edema (swelling of feet and ankle) with no background history of prior medical illness and that your blood pressure were quite normal before today's reading.
Pedal edema with raised blood pressure indicates volume over load condition. Volume over load condition occurs due to anemia, kidney or heart condition. Since you are comfortable without breathing discomfort and chest pain, serious condition is unlikely. Yet, ER visit is worthwhile.
Early evaluation and treatment of any volume over load condition is proven to be beneficial. Therefore the ER visit.
Hope this answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.
