Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Labia
Question: Hi Dr XXXX
My 14r old daughter has a swollen labia near the entrance to her vagina..i have alsoo noted that there is a dark area like a bruise with a light colour n the middle on the inside of her labia or nearly in the vagina area to one side.....slight watery blood discharge from the vagina too noticed. (this has been here for about 2-3 days she thinks). the labia is sore she said but the discoloured area isnt. She says the discolored area is itchy. She was uwell a week ago with hgh fever x 36hrs which is very unlike her..and some tiredness, not sure if related . She has expressed that er school trousers and her underwear was getting caught in on one side of her genital area and ? if that caused any issue .As a worrying mum needless to say i started with the worst most fearful questions with her asing re any sexual/foreighn object etc which she said no to. I do believe her as we are very open and honest with generally everything,,, any advice on what it could be???? i am monitering it and plan to take her to see dr next week

1. Allergic reaction to some kind of substance, fabric, scented or coloured toilet paper, local cleanser, lotion, gel, soap or bathing product.
2. An infection, due to the nails or a nearby infected hair follicle, which could be causing a developing abscess. Also, if she used some kind of insertion device, that could have abraded and injured the area, and caused infection. Also preexisting genital infection in the area, such as fungal infection or bacterial infection, could have been worsened by abrasion during masturbation.
3. It is common for the labia to be sore and swollen for a day after vigorous intercourse/ rubbing during masturbation. If it is very painful and troublesome, there could be a minor blood vessel which bled inside the labia, leading to a hematoma ( blood clot ).
You need to consult a gynecologist for exact diagnosis and treatment.
For the time being, please use ice packs, soothing gels like aloe vera and if itching is a problem, she can use Vagisilanti itch cream
Also avoid abrasion and friction, excessive washing or rubbing of the affected area.
