Suggest Treatment For Stage 4 Appendiceal Mucinous Adenocarcinoma

Question: My father has stage 4 appendiceal mucinous adenocarcinoma. His last CT scan shows some improvements. But, he now has a 5.2cm prostatomegaly protruding into the bladder. He does have occasional problem with getting his urine stream to start. Should we now be concerned about the possibility of the cancer in his prostate or bladder?? The drs haven't even mentioned this. I figure it's cuz they are more concerned about all the cancer. Idk if we should ask about this or not. Plz help!

Brief Answer:
Pet scan

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Since your father is having stage 4 appendiceal mucinous adenocarcinoma and last CT scan is showing 5.2cm prostatomegaly protruding into the bladder i will advise you to do a PET Scan.

Stage 4 cancer has the tendency of spreading to other organs rapidly and that is why the Pet scan is necessary to find the exact ares of his disease spreading.

We could ask for a PET scan. They haven't wanted to do that. Saying the mucinous type cancer doesn't show up s well. But, since this is something different they might agree to it. Thank you for your response!!

Brief Answer:
PET scan better option than CT scan for detecting cancerous tumours

Detailed Answer:
Hi

PET scan reveal changes in metabolism and how organs and tissues are working.

Many cancers can be detected using PET before they can be ‘seen’ using other medical imaging techniques.

PET scans can create an image of the entire body. This means that, for some cancers, they can show if cancer is spreading to other parts of the body.

PET scan is used to see if tumours are malignant and to tell the difference between an active tumour and scar tissue and is a better option than plain CT scan for detecting cancerous tumours and its spread in the surrounding regions.
