Brief Answer:
possibly due to decrease in testosterone levels.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to HCM,

I can understand your concerns,

Usually during menopause, a woman's level of testosterone drops, she could experience a decrease in size, function, and sensitivity of the clitoris over time.

The use of testosterone in a cream or pill can be helpful in restoring the size and sensitivity of the clitoris, and also your sense of well-being and sexual libido.

The use of a vibrating device that focuses sensation on the clitoral area can also help provide stimulation.

The testosterone gel or cream is usually available on prescription.
Kindly consult your doctor about this.

Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

good morning. thank you so much for your prompt response. we've tried using a vibrator, but my clitoris has shrunk/retreated so much, i get little or no real stimulation doing that.

as to the testosterone cream or pill, i've heard horror stories about unwanted hair, deepening of the voice, etc. and i'm concerned about these effects. (i already have a naturally deep voice, so i DON'T need that! lol) ... does that happen with both the cream and the pill? is one more likely to produce those effects than the other? is one more effective in treating the problem than the other?

thank you for helping me with this traumatic issue. i really appreciate it.

Brief Answer:
both pill and cream can cause side effects.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Sorry for the late response this time.

You are right that testosterone can cause these side effects.

But as the clitoris is sensitive to testosterone, in my opinion, this is the best way to treat your problem.

Considering the side effects of testosterone, you can first use lubricating agents containing menthol and peppermint oils.
These are vasodilators and may help to improve the blood circulation to clitoris.

Both pill and cream can cause these side effects.
If your problem does not resolve with lubricating agents, then testosterone can be considered strictly under your doctor's supervision. Gel (which I personally would recommend) must be applied as minimal as possible only on the affected area.

Hope you find my suggestions helpful in any way.

I wish you well.
Thanks.

yes, your suggestions have been very helpful indeed, and i really appreciate it. i'm trying to get as much info as i can beforehand because my OBGYN is kinda old-fashioned and conservative, so i might have to basically put my foot down and i want to have as much info as i can to forestall any of her arguments. (wait, can she actually do that? refuse to prescribe it for me?)

i'm sorry to keep bothering you, but i'm trying to get as much info as i can.

thank you so much.
