Question: Last week I had a really bad sinus infection that caused me to cough and sneeze a lot. I noticed a lot of soreness through my lower rib cage and through my back for a few days. Now that I am have recovered from that I had some slight pain in the lower right ribcage around where my 6,7,8,9, 10 ribs on the front come together. Now it is just sore. When I lean back its sore bad and if I to u and palate I feel pain on the rib and right under it, it also hurts when I cough or sneeze and when I lay on my stomach i feel discomfort. It seems to be in on the rib but also on the muscle or liver area

Brief Answer:
Possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Coughing and sneezing can cause exertion of lower ribs and intercostal muscles.
So rib pain can be due to your coughing and sneezing.
Liver damage is unlikely but if you want to rule out this than ultrasound examination of abdomen is needed.
So better to follow these steps for better symptomatic relief in musculoskeletal pain.
1. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
2. Avoid bad postures in sleep.
3. Avoid movements causing pain.
4. Start painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs.
5. Apply warm water pad on affected site.
You will mostly improve in 1-2 weeks.
If not improving than get done chest x ray to rule out lung pathology and ultrasound examination of abdomen to rule out liver pathology.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Last question doc, I've noticed today that only coughing affects it other then leaning back to stretch. I've sneezed a few times and it doesn't really bother it but I also have some slight soreness down in the abdominal near belly button kinda of straight down from the ribs and some mild soreness in the back. Still conclude the same and use heat to help?

Also doc, have noticed the area over the rib has a slight puff nature, is that to be expected with swelling of the ribs?

Brief Answer:
This suggests improvement.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
You are initially have pain on sneezing and now you are not having it, this suggests recovery.
So no need to worry much for this pain.
This pain is musculoskeletal pain only. And with warm water pad application and painkiller with muscle relaxant, it will mostly improve.
So don't worry much.
If not improving in 1 - 2 weeks than get done ultrasound examination of abdomen to rule out abdominal pathology and chest x ray to rule out internal lung damage.
Hope I have solved your query.
