Question: I have a severely blocked nose and can;t breathe through my nostrils, especially the right side, which has not improved with steaming or saline nasal drops and wikoryl tablets which I started from yesterday morning. I think i should switch to Montair. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Can take Otrivin- O

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your query,

Before I could guide you any further, I would like to know if you have any history of bronchial asthma, seasonal allergic rhinitis, deviated nasal septum.

Montair is montelukast which is used to treat allergies. You can consider using Montair tablets if you have other associated symptoms like allergic cough, conjunctivitis, rhinnorhea, irritation of throat or pharynx.

If I were your treating physician, I would suggest you to take Otrivin - O, which contains oxymetazoline, which is a nasal decongestant, will help in relieving your blocked nose.
Also consider the use of humidifiers in your house, which will prevent from recurring symptoms.

Hope I have answered to your query,

Please feel free to discuss further or else kindly close and give your feedback.

Thanks and regards

I have been using a humidifier and have been steaming. It has not helped. Also I have a chronic condition of inflammation in the sinuses and am very prone to headaches. At present, it is very severe congestion with a dry nose. So perhaps it is related to allergic rhinitis? I am also on 300 mg of Bupron. My psychiatrist told me not to take wikoryl but that montair is fine. I told him this was self-medication. I just read that otrivin o can react with some anti depressants. Please review again, many thanks

Brief Answer:
Oxymetazoline has no such proven interactions with bupropion

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for writing back,

I have gone through your query carefully and I can understand your concern,

Since you have mentioned that you have a history of chronic sinusitis, your symptoms are still consistent with it, now being an exacerbation due to the seasonal variations.

Montair, containing montelukast is usually given to treat allergies and bronchospasm, in other words, in patients with a hyperactive airway. You may consider taking this so as to decrease the sensitivity of your airways.

Oxymetazoline has no proven interaction with bupropion. But I would suggest you discussing this with your treating doctor and see if he agrees with me.

Hope this helps

Warm regards
