Question: My daughter is 27 and has significant itching with major bruising on outer thigh and arm only on left side. Her veins are a little distended overall.. I am a nurse but not sure if this is Idiopathic urticaria or if something else is going on? Unilateral only to left side -any thoughts

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.

I've seen the attached image,
The pattern of urticaria and bruising puts vasculitis in the fore front as the diagnosis.
Vasculitis should be ruled out.

Please get the following investigations done -
Complete blood count, ESR, ANA, Anti Ds DNA , C XXXXXXX and P XXXXXXX
Once the work up is done, the type of vasculitis will need to be determined and treatment would be started after that .

As you are a Medical personnel, you must be aware that the reason for me to put it as a primary diagnosis is that your daughter has two risk factors one is the age and gender.

Also please have a close watch if anything triggers or relieves those symptoms.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask further
Best wishes

Thanks so much Dr XXXXXXX
I appreciate your prompt response. My daughter is so non- compliant she makes me crazy but I will tell her to go get the blood work done. I am concerned. One question - would this also explain the unilateral presentation of the bruising and itching if the vasculitis is just affecting one side. I appreciate your expertise and knowledge.
