Suggest Treatment For Severe Heartburn And GERD
Question: I haven't experienced heartburn in a long time, recently about a week ago, i started feeling somewhat bloated especially after drinking carbonated beverages. I have not taken any over the counter meds, I am very active and recently had a physical, but failed to mention this to my doctor. It doesn't feel very uncomfortable, only when I eat some foods, but I've never experienced this feeling before. I do have some hiccups, and am burping much more than normal but only after eating. I am very fit, great blood pressure, I had a complete blood screening recently performed by my primary care pays., I am 5'11" and weigh 168 lbs. I bicycle at least 3 times a week for a total of 100+ miles.
Brief Answer:
could be GERD
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
heartburn is usually caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It causes reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus and perhaps up to the mouth particularly when lying down after a big meal or when the stomach is full or when certain food is consumed (chocolate, orange juice, too much fat, etc). Esophagitis, peptic ulcer are other causes that may apply.
An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is the best way to find out. Regarding treatment, proton pump inhibitors will provide relief to patients with the aforementioned disorders. So you'd better visit either your primary care physician or a gastroenterologist for further investigation.
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
