I am Dr Saad Sultan and I will be answering your query. I have gone through your query and being your physician I completely understand your health concerns.
Is he running temperature? What about the colour of ear? Any redness , warmth? Is he having diabetes?
Based upon the history provided it appear that he has got infection of the external ear. He needs to be examined by the doctor so that he can be appropriately managed.
If I am his attending physician I will prescribe him anti inflammatory drugs . Antibiotics should only be used if there is clinical signs of infections. Generally in this part of the body penicillin group works well.
Meanwhile stay calm and continue with ibuprofen.
Hope it helps

Would that explain the "stingers" in his head, above his ear. Would warm oil in his ear help the ear pain. Heating pad?He is not diabetic, doesn't have any high blood pressure or heart problems. His ear doesn't feel hot, he is not running a themperature. The pain seems to be internal in his ear, not external. His outer ear is not sensitive to touch, only a portion of his scalp about 3" above the ear.

I appreciate your follow up
Based upon the history , external ear infection can be ruled out. It appear that he has either middle ear infection. He needs to be treated with antibiotics. ENT surgeon opinion will greatly help us in this context.
Penicillin group antibiotics along with pain killers should help him a lot.
Please do not put any thing in His external ear. It is not indicated here
You can use acetaminophen to relieve his pain
Hope it helps
