Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression, PCOS, Lethargy And Bloating
Question: At this current time, I am battling a pretty severe depression that I suspect is linked to my Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Brief background - I have been to my OBGYN in March of this year, had a vaginal ultrasound and have been battling PCOS for about three years. Ever since being off birth control pills for almost two years, I have not gotten my period.
I strongly suspect my lack of period is linked to my depression. I am seeing my OBGYN to go back on a birth control pill since she thinks my cycles coming back will help the depression.
What can I do for my depression in the meantime? I feel lethargic, tired, am unable to cry, trouble focusing, have anxiety and unhappy. Plus, I feel bloated (from my ovarian cysts) and have backaches like I'm going to get my period (except I don't get the period so there is no relief). Normally, I don't like to take a pill for depression but I am hitting rock bottom with how I feel.
Is there anything else I can do in the meantime to feel better? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Birth control pills may not help much
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns about depression.
PCOS generally does not lead to depression. Hence I don't think starting birth control pills will help you.
If you are obese, losing weight will certainly help you to battle depression. Regular exercise regimen will bring up your mood and enhance your daily activities besides weight loss.
I know you don't wish to start psychiatric medicines, but counseling sessions by a psychiatrist will surely help you. Professional psychiatric help should be taken instead of birth control pills.
Let me know if you need any more help.
