Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain And Blood In Urine

Question: Eight months ago I started having severe back pain and visible blood in urine. I am healthy 56 year old female who never smoked. I went to my doctor who ordered a urinalysis.....showed no infection so I was referred to a Urologist. Kidney stones were suspected so I had an ultrasound of kidneys and bladder. Hydronephrosis of right kidney detected. Then had a CT scan of abdomen and multiple stones found in both kidneys. Visible blood has continued off and on with mild pain and discomfort. I also had a cystoscopy which turned out normal and cytology of urine also turned out fine. My question.....when using urine screen I sometimes notice small specks of red tissue, tiny white specks and dark brown/black specks - is this all because of stones? Is there a way to make the stones pass.....the largest is 4.5 cm.

Brief Answer:
Specks are derived from stone scratching.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Small specks in urine are most probably derived from scratched urinary ways walls by stones.

They are composed by epithelial cells and blood.

Different colors means different stay time into urine.

Kidney stones are treated in different ways:

-Lithotripsy or breaking the stones with extracorporal sound waves.

-Removing stones with uretheroscope for small stones.

-Surgery for large stones.

The appropriate treatment depends on location of stone, measures, clinical signs etc, and needs to be discussed with an Urologist.

Small stones can be treated conservatively by drinking a lot of water ( 2 to 3 liters a day), certain natural tea.
