Suggest Treatment For Redness And Swelling In Uvula And Tonsils

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Mar 2015
Question: I have some sort of viral infection as my uvula and tonsils/lymph nodes (?) are red and swollen. The congestion is getting worse, do you have any recommendations on what I can take or do? And for my sore throat? Those are probably the two biggest things as of right now in addition to fatigue in a little bit of "disorientation" when I wake up from either a nap or an evening of sleep. Is this normal? Thank you so much for your help.

Brief Answer:
It is not normal to have disorientation

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Considering your symptoms , you may not just be having a viral infection alone , rather there may be a super added bacterial infection , which is aggravating your symptoms.

I have not examined you , so i cannot be completely sure and i would strongly recommend that you meet your doctor for confirming this.

Disorientation is a bad sign and may indicate that the infection is spreading or you are dehydrated as the oral intake will come down because of the infection.

You ill need a course of antibiotics, for which you will have to meet your ent doctor.

please start gargling with warm salt water 2-3 times a day, which will give you good relief.

Take care!

Good morning
Today is day 2.5 with this virus…

It's still red but only minor swelling. At this point I mainly have a lot of congestion.

Question: am I contagious? My work requires me to interview elderly people those who are in their mid-80s to mid 90s. I want to make sure I am not putting them in harms way considering their age.

Thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
yes you are contagious!

Detailed Answer:
hello

Yes i am afraid to say that you are contagious and i would like you to avoid contact with people susceptible to infection for another 5-6 days at least.

Please follow the advice i have given before and continue gargling!

I am happy to note that you are improving!

wishing you an early recovery

Thanks

Hello! My body temp rarely deviates drom 97.6. Does that mean a lower "normal" temp could mean a fever for me?

Thank you!
