Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: I have had a sore lymph node in my neck area for three weeks now. It's not swollen just sore. I went to my primary Dr. he though it could be a pulled muscle so he gave me some heat for a while, cracked my neck and loosend it up, and gave me antibiotic just incase. The pain is still there. I'm nervous and he can't see me until Tuesday. What should I do

Brief Answer:
muscle relaxants wll help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent pain in the neck with no palpable swelling is less likely to be due to a lymph node as it would have subsided after taking the antibiotics. It is more likely to be due to a muscle spasm.
You should do following to have relief -
-Wear a cervical collar. This will at least give rest to your strained muscles.
-Avoid bending your neck at abnormal position for long time, like on computer.
-Do warm water fomentation with help of water bag over your neck.
-Take a good analgesic like combination of tramadol with paracetamol.
-Take help of a physiothearpist .He will be able to give your relief by intermittent traction, ultrasonic therapy etc.
muscle relaxants might be helpful in addition to the pain killers.
I hope this answers your query.
