Questions and answers on "Cervical collar"

I have a few questions in relation to my scans.. first of all I have been on this forum before and I found it very useful I forwarded in july/august time. I am now forwarding you two more scans to look at.
The reading for the Lumbar Scan is as follows:-
Desiccated L4L5 and L5S1 discs with minimal degenerative anterior listhesis of S1 on L5. Satisfactory verbal alignment otherwise. There is a broad based disc bulge and central to right paracentral annular tear at the L4-5 level with a little flattening of the anterior thecal sac and minor right exit foraminal narrowing but no discrete nerve root compression. There is a minimal disc bulge and small central annular tear at the L5S1 level but no appreciable canal or exit foraminal narrowing. Dehydrated disc and small left posterosteral disc bulge and annular tear present at the L3L4 level with minor left exit foraminal narrowing but no discrete nerve root compression. Normal signal throughout the visualised lower cord.
My Cervical Spine reads as follows:- Straightening of the Cervical spine with partial loss of lordosis. Satisfactory verbal alignment otherwise Desiccated disc and advanced degenerative disc space narrowing at C5C6 Level. Dehydrated discs at remaining cervical levels with mild/moderate C6C7 disc space narrowing. There is a moderate sized broad based disc osteophyte with a right sided preponderance at C5 C6 level with moderate to high grade right and somewhat less pronounced left exit foraminal narrowing. There is a similar broad based disc bulge at the C6-C7 level with moderate exit foraminal narrowing bilaterally. Normal signal throughout the cervical and visualised upper thoracic cord. Symtoms in the neck are very sore upper limbs when moving or driving. I have been getting a lot of physiotherapy. My physiotherapy states there are no neurological findings in back or neck..last time I was scanned for neck was last year and got reviews from Healthcare magic. How do I get rid of the trapeziuz muscles pain in upper arm bilaterial.. can you give me your opinion on both these scans.. I have attached both of them. I may send you another copy in a later email of the last back scan taken six months ago and the neck scan taken six months ago. Thanks.. Scan s attached

I have a stable spinous process fracture of C-7 and have been prescribed a hard neck brace for 4-6 weeks. My neck does not hurt, I have no tingling anywhere except the neck brace is causing serious back problems in the middle of my back. Wearing it also gives my headaches. I can take it off to shower and once it is off my back and head feel better. what should I do?

doctor1 MD

Hi Mtray,
Welcome to healthcare magic!
You are having the problem because you are not accustomed to a static posture of the neck, it takes some time to get adjusted to the static posture.
Wear it continuously in the hours of activity and you would get used to this in 7-10 days.
Meanwhile you can...

Hello. I had a had at work where I injured my neck. I have been at home for over a week with the injury which was diagnosed as a possible neck contusion. I have been wearing a neck brace to support my neck and immobilize the damaged neck as much as possible. I, however, woke up a few hours again with incredibly severe neck pain and numbness in my left arm . What is going on?

doctor1 MD

Hi, Flagervall,
Thanks for query.
it seems that you might be having heavy strain on your neck muscles and getting severe muscle spasm giving this severe pain.
But as a week time is passed and you did not get relief what I would suggest is to go for X ray cervical region to rule out any problem...

It will be 4 years ago this fall since I caused a very small fracture in my C5 when wrecking on my bicycle. I wore a neck brace for around 30 days and was told that I didn t really need to worry about it due to the minimal damage that was caused. However, recently I have been experiencing my entire body rush with numbness when my neck pops. I pop my neck a lot out of habit but it doesn t happen when I do that. It seems to happen when my neck pops without me facilitating the pop. Today I was yawning and it popped almost causing me to fall down. And, later I was just walking along and it popped causing me to losing my balance again. Is this something that is possibly related to the previous injury or just something that happens to people normally?

doctor1 MD

Hi, as is already 4 years passed after the injury and c5 fracture.
It may be some thing related to the temporomandibular joint, or may be the internal ear problem, causing dizzyness. I advise you to consult a neurologist for diagnosis and treatment. Thank you.

Thank you. for 2 months I've had a pain in the left side of my neck. I've seen a chiropractor and massage therapist without any positive results. In the past few days I've had great difficulty in moving my head to the L or R and now pain when I lift my head up from a sleeping position or virtually and upward lifting.
To my knowledge I have experienced no injury (trauma) to my neck or elsewhere. Aleve does not help.
I have Hydrocodone from a past knee replacement but hesitate to take it.
Suggestions?
Again, thanks for any suggestions.
