Suggest Treatment For Pain In Tail Bone Area After Injury

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, I fell on my tailbone several years ago. I never saw a doctor and just let it heal on its own. It did after about a year. I recently slipped and fell on it again and reinjured the area. I didn't have bruising though (and I bruise easily!) and the pain subsided after ice then heat and motrin and slow walking. But then after traveling for work and not being able to walk much or use a heating pad and then sitting on a plane for several hours I am in pain again. It is really that I am having trouble walking...the movement when walking is what hurts. It feels "heavy". I am not an alarmist so I want to try to get this to heal on my own. Please advise. Many thanks!

Brief Answer:
Pain medications and rest, if it persists then get an Xray done!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this repeated falls. Please, try to identify the cause and avoid at all cost. Falls can lead to more concerning disease states.

I have reviewed your information and there are no red flags at this time. Even if you were to have a factor of the tail bone, rest and pain medications is the best recommended treatment. For these same reasons, I will want you to get enough rest and pain medications. I will recommend taking both tylenol and Ibuprofen at this time alongside icing to relief the pains. If these don’t help, the we will need to consult for an Xray and more powerful medications to control pains. Further plans would be based on the findings of the X-ray.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
