Suggest Treatment For Neuropathy In Legs And Arms When Suffering From Hypothyroidism

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Feb 2015
Question: My wife has hypothyroidism, her endo doc increased levothyroxine dose to .075 from .050. She can't sleep, has fasting blood glucose in the 125 range, but is not on insulin. She feels odd when glucose gets above 125-135. Also is on diazepam, celexa, 4 blood pressure meds. The "glands" in her neck,(no thyroid) are swollen and are putting pressure on her throat and ear. Docs here are of little help. Should we give the thyroid medicine more than the 10 days it been since changed. She is also kept awake by neuropathy in her back, legs, and arms. She's had gastro problems, HBP problems. Where to go? What type doc can help?

Brief Answer:
INTERNAL MEDICINE

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern and sorry to hear about your wife's issues. She has diabetes high blood pressure and hypothyroidism. The "glands" which you mentioned in her neck could be lymphnodes. She will need an ultrasound scan to look at the lymphnodes.
Your endocrinologist might have increased her thyroxine dose due to high TSH value. please continue the levothyroxine 0.075 mcg dose.

As she has multiple problems, the best doctor to look after her would be an Internal medicine doctor or a Geriatrician ( if she is over 65 years) with input from an endocrinologist.
