Posted on Wed, 29 Oct 2014
Question: I got the norovirus in October 2012 and then gastroenteritis where I was admitted as an emergency for 5 days being treated for this since then I have had post infectious IBS where I have been under a gastroentroligist to try to get to the bottom of everything I have had every test done, blood tests and he put it down to IBS after being so unwell I also lost 2 stone in weight. I have been suffering with severe upper stomach pain and nausea for well over a year now though my gastroentroligist insists that its all to do with my IBS I am really fed up of this as I now have anxiety issues along with a vomiting phobia after getting norovirus please give me some advice if it is IBS or something else as I cannot put up with it anymore

Brief Answer:
Anxiety worsens your current symptoms...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the health situation you are in.

It is normal to get IBS after passing through norovirus. Lactose intolerance is another diagnosis to rule out.

If you have done all the necessary tests (including abdominal ultrasound, liver/kidney/pancreas function tests, food intolerance testing, etc.), and they resulted negative, then, anxiety remains the only cause to what you are experiencing. Try to:
- cope with stress
- take chamomile/valeriana /aloe vera supplementation
- discuss with your doctor to start anxiety medication

Hope it helped!

Brief Answer:
Rule out organic problems as following...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Lactose intolerance can be also associated with abdominal discomfort.

As you have not checked your pancreas properly, then, should get it properly checked to exclude pancreas issues:
- abdominal ultrasound
- blood amylase and lipase level

You are also reporting to have kidney infection, which can also cause lower stomach pain, and nausea/vomiting. Should run urine analysis and kidney function tests for proper evaluations.

Anxiety can make you more sensitive to the pain. To conclude everything you are experiencing is due to anxiety should rule out organic issues first.

Hope it helped!
