Suggest Treatment For Myasthenia Gravis Other Than Prednisone Therapy

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: Dear Friends,

Thanks for the continuing contact. I am 79 y.o. and afflicted with Myasthenia Gravis, as previously reported. The two major challenges presently are double vision and difficulty swallowing. Not life threatening at this point. I have declined to adopt Prednisone therapy to suppress my immune system. I don't see the point of inviting infection to enlarge my problem, particularly with no cure in sight,

My main concern today, however, is to garner an opinion regarding the effect of high male estrogen levels on my body. I already have developed fatty breasts and an enlarged mid-section. My waist measurement is 48". I weigh 250 lbs.

Your analysis will be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Hello

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Good day.
There are other options in Myasthenia gravis apart from prednisolone. You mat discuss other options apart from Prednisolone with your neurologist/immunologist.

Regarding the estrogen status, did you actually have a blood test for that?

Fatty breasts are not always equal to gynecomastia ( true glandular development of breasts). To differentiate between true gynecomastia from fatty breasts, a doctor need to examine you ( lying down position with hands folded and kept behind head). There are number of reasons for fatty mid section and fatty breasts apart from high estrogen levels.

Are you on any pills like aldactone ( spironolactone?) Do you have any pain in breasts?
Have you ever done a thyroid blood test?
I would appreciate a reply
Kind regards
Binu

Thank you Doctor P. I just had my A1c, Comprehensive Metabolic W/EGFR, 5/20/14. The thyroid was not specifically tested. I could not find any reference on my test results. My concern is that my estrogen level is high. The ARPN did not include the estrogen test during my A1c, even though I requested it. I will again request the test for my own satisfaction. I am 79 y.o. and weigh 25p0 ;bs.

Hi

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day.
The only thing we could do now is to do exercise ( if Myasthenia will not trouble you from doing it) and weight loss. If we know the exact estrogen levels, it would have been better. Avoid food with lots of natural estrogens like YAM, evening Prim XXXXXXX oil, Soya ( you can have them in normal levels). Avoid eating excess broiler chicken as usually it is estrogen fed.
Please write back to me with estrogen report ( if you are going to have the test done) . Please make sure that you do the fasting estrogen level
