Suggest Treatment For Multiple Uterine Fibroids

Question: Hello Dr, I hd an pelvic scan a few days ago and was diagnosed with multiple uterine fabroids and right ovarian haemorrhagic cyst. What options do I have 2get rid of them asides surgery. My period is delayed by 2 days already, could this be as a result of the cyst?

I can understand your concerns.

I have gone through your reports thoroughly.

For uterine fibroids, Medications do not eliminate them but can reduce their size.
The medications commonly used to reduce their size are mifepristone, progesterone-releasing IUDs and Gonadotropin agonists.
Ibuprofen can be used to reduce pain.

For hemorrhagic cysts, intravenous antibiotics are given for 5 days initially.

But, repeat ultrasound scans would be needed to check the reduction in size of cyst and fibroids.

Yes, ovarian cysts a cause irregularity of periods and thus delay periods.

Kindly discuss about these treatment options with your gynecologist.
Please note that all the drugs listed above are prescription drugs.

Thank you Dr XXXXXXX How long on the average can my period be delayed as a result of the cysts? Am all worried because I live in a town where I can't get a gynaecologist to physically evaluate me. I also understand that the cyst may be temporal and as such may disappear after one or two periods, please how true is this?

I am yet to receive a reply on my follow up question of 12hours ago. I'd appreciate if I get a feedback shortly. Thank you

Hello,

Extremely sorry for late response.

The exact duration for how long it delays period can not be estimated.It may vary from person-to-person. In some cases it does cause menstrual irregularities.

Though in some cases, it disappear with-in two cycles (8weeks), I would advice you to take treatment for it as there are chances of rupture.

If visiting a gynecologist is not feasible, perhaps repeating ultrasound scan to monitor the size of cyst is advisable. You can take a call based on the size and progress of cyst.
