Suggest Treatment For Multiple Lumps On Body

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jun 2016
Question: i have multiple lumps all over my body (18-20 in numbers). Some doctors say it is LIPOMA (by simply pressing/touching it) but the BIOPSY report says 'SUGGESTIVE OF NEUROFIBROMA'.

My first question is, is there any cure of it or is there any way to stop the spread of it or to limit the size of it?

Second question is, I'm very much interested in joining the XXXXXXX armed forces so can it be a reason for a disqualification in medical examination (*any type of skin disease leads to the disqualification).

Third question, how can i differentiate between neurofibroma and lipoma.

PS: Second question is really very important so please answer it in detail.

Brief Ans-Neurofibroma- Evaluation for Medical Fitness in army

Hi,Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your query in context to your health and job concerns.

Following are the replies-
Q-1-My first question is, is there any cure of it or is there any way to stop the spread of it or to limit the size of it?
Ans-1-Neurofibromas are benign tumours and are not cancerous. If they obstruct any function / or cause cosmetic distortion-only then they need excision.

Can you stop there development?or spread of it?
These growths and their sizes are predetermined by genetic predilection by virtue of heredity and hence can not be prevented from developing at other sites.

Can these lumps be cured?
Those which are present could be cured by Surgical Excision.
Surgery is the only known Cure/remedy,as you are opting for fitness of job in XXXXXXX Army,as the recurrence is nil almost, being benign.

Q-2-Second question is, I'm very much interested in joining the XXXXXXX armed forces so can it be a reason for a disqualification in medical examination (*any type of skin disease leads to the disqualification).
Ans-2-As a general rule, if the disease entity does not affect your duty and function of the post -for which you are working your medical fitness is not affected.
Being Benign, after surgical removal, they don't affect your function or cosmetic outlook.
Thus they should not be hindrance,if pre-job "Surgical excision" is planned by you.
Problem with some neurofibromas-is that-their number needs to be observed with each follow up visit and comparatively may affect your bodily functions.
What I would suggest you-to get second surgical biopsy, for confirming if its fibrolipoma or neurofibroma.
As fibrolipomas /or lipomas are known to be with less accompanying functional problems.
But these type of functional hindrance occurs very rarely in lipomas

Q-3-Third question, how can i differentiate between neurofibroma and lipoma.
Ans-3-For that you need to Consult Surgeon and get biopsy done.
For a layman-a firm feeling lump is Neurofibroma ,which grows along the course of cutaneous nerves.
Buts its very difficult for anybody-to differentiate on these lines.Biopsy is the only differentiating tool for anybody.

Hope this reply would satisfy and helpful to you.

thank you for early reply,
actually the thing is i am sure that i will be appearing for SSB interview in august this year and in medical examination the lumps will attract their attention for sure.

What should be done to avoid that? Should i make them surgically removed before appearing?

And what i fear is, about 8 years ago i had one of them removed which was very first to be found in my body and after its removal suddenly more lumps started to form and now the number is almost 20. For me it was like if i wouldn't have that one removed then i might have avoided formation of other lumps.

Sir, i don't doubt your knowledge but its my career at stake so i would request you to have a look at CDSE Medical Examination Procedure and answer in YES or NO about these lumps in getting me disqualified.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for the update query.
Reviewed your query and assertion to appear for SSB.

-?Yes or No-On Medical Fitness-
Dear I would suggest you to have the medical fitness tests done prior to SSB examination-at govt hospital / and or district medical College Hospital and get assessed for medical fitness. This is because, neurofibroma is multisystemic genetic entity.
Expert Doctors will have to physically check and assess so many variables ,which may decide your fitness to service. So its difficult to opine on fitness on Lump-a single variable in your case.
I have gone through the CDSE pattern of Medical fitness. Its very difficult to opine on the CDSE pattern of Medical fitness, which does not give any thing about the Neurofibroma lumps.
You have option of-AMB- Appeal to Medical Board, in case of any obstruction on medical grounds.

-?Relation of Multiplicity of Lumps- in last 8 yrs and First surgical removal.
Recurrence or multiplicity- of Neurofibromas is genetically predetermined and can't be predicted. So its wrong to blame surgical removal 8 yrs back has lead to multiple neruofibromas later on to 20 nos.

-?Surgery to be done prior to SSB?or When?
Radiofrequency Surgery and Laser -non-surgical removal with minimal scar is the option for your needs. But has to be done before and not after giving SSB examination.

I Wish you best of Luck for the SSB exam in advance !!
