Suggest Treatment For Mucus And Bright Blood In Stool

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Feb 2017
Question: m 20 years old female, wondering, What would cause clear mucus with bright blood inside it attached to outside of the stool.
On some stools previously i had white mucus
Also noticed a change in bowel movement , first part of the stool is normal sized and formed followed by thin soft stool (not diarreah and i don't get this blood mucus all the time probably once every couple of weeks) and i must say this amount of blood is very small
I would usually have a bowel movement once every 2-4 days, now its every morning.
I have abdominal pains sometimes , mainly when walking and doing stuff. It feels like something is inside my left abdoman-again worrying its a cancerous growth
Had a blood test and everything was in normal range, no signs of infection which is why im thinking bowel cancer.
I noticed 1 worm in my stool 6 weeks ago and took the Mebendazole and haven't noticed any others.
That was the only one i have ever seen
All of this has started since end of October 2016, i had severe bloating and a bit of pain for a week and at night during this bloating i would have lots of gurgling noises, the bloating went and hasn't come back
Scared its bowel cancer
Booked in for a sigmoidoscopy Thurs , looking for what i could potentially expect to find

Hi and welcome.
In your age, cancer is the last thing to think of. These are pretty nonspecific symptoms and may indicate more or less benign disorders of colon and bowel. In most cases this is just sign of IBS or food allergy or hemorrhoids, however if there are diarrhea, weight loss or abdominal cramps, then there may be inflammatory bowel disease such as crohns or ulcerative colitis which begin in your age and colonoscopy will show this. Wish you good health. Regards

Is it possible the worm i found in my stool could have something to do with all of this ?
I sometimes feel a hard tubular lump in my lower left abdomen (were i imagine the sigmoid colon is) which decreases in size after a bowel movement. It is always fairly hard, not soft and squishy like everything else in the tummy area
And surely if my symptoms were nothing serious they would have gone by now or at least have good and bad days?
But i have felt like this each day for 2 months now
If it was cancer do you think the bloating would have persisted and/or got worse? I only had the bloating for one week before all the rest of the symptoms started.

Hi

Well,if this was cancer that caused bowel blockage, you would have serious symptoms already, vomiting, absence of bowel movements and weight loss. This sounds more like something benign and chronic such as diverticulosis, IBS or ovarian cyst. You should do ultrasound of pelvis and colonoscopy. I don't think that worms would cause this. Wish you good health. Regards

Also IBS doesn't great bloody mucus so im sure its not IBS

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Bloody mucous may be sign of ulcerative colitis, diverticulosis or polyps. This tubular structure may be a thickened wall of sigmoid colon, which may be seen in above mentioned diseases.
