Brief Answer:
Its enlarged lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This lump is an enlarged lymph node. Usually it appears due to throat infection, teeth infection, enlarged tonsils and many more.
It would be a good idea to take your son to laryngologist for mouth and throat examination. Blood work should be also done to see WBC level.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
No need to be worried.

Detailed Answer:
I do not think you should be worried. But it is necessary to find the source of infection (ear can be the source as well). So laryngologist and another blood work is a good idea.
