Suggest Treatment For Large Bruise On Forearm

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Sep 2014
Question: A week ago woke up with large bruise on my forearm which spread around my arm to elbow level. Don't recall injuring myself apart from a very minor burn on my oven, but there is a slightly hard area in centre of original bruise and what looks like a tiny red spot/scratch. Should this be healing by now. It doesn't appear to be getting worse since spreading around arm, but wonder if it should be taking so long to heal. It is not particularly sore but very unsightly. I am type Ii diabetic and take Glucophage for this and a daily 75 mg aspirin and stating tablet.

Brief Answer:
Aspirin is likely cause for this.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Cause of such bruise in your case is likely to be blood thinner aspirin medication.

The bruise would actually take pretty long to vanish even after complete healing, as blood produces in subcutaneous tissue get absorbed slowly.

Central hard area is likely to be organised hematoma and it will take time to resolve.

Such bruises dont need any treatment as such nor they can be made to vanish early by medications.

Only worry in cases like this is fear of potential internal bleed. So one should bring this to notice of medication prescribing doctor.

Doctor would like to get your bleeding and clotting time tested.Test result will determine course of action to be undertaken.

Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.
