Suggest Treatment For Itchy Red Rash In Groin Area

Question: I had started about a month ago with a mosquito bite located on my underwear line, scratched and applied Ivarest for the itch, the Calamine in it helped relieve the itching. The Ivarest helped but a rash appeared, located next to the mosquito bite (left side only) and along the underwear line, it looked very much like prickly heat. The weather has been very hot, no rain, having a drought. Also, prior to the possible prickly heat rash, I had been applying a balm, containing beeswax just under my left hip, for almost two months, but had not developed a rash at all, until recently. The left side rash is looking better now, it now has scabs, still applying Ivarest, no itch. However, the last couple of days, another rash has appeared (right side only), stopped using the balm within the last week, but a new rash developed on the right side of underwear line, itchy, red, exactly on the underwear line. Have applied the Ivarest, and left over medication from April ( had had a strange rash then, gone), Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream .0%, just applied within the last two day but instead of the rash going away, it spread, again exactly on the underwear line, however, I have only applied the Triamcinolone, since last night. I am worried, I have never had had prickly rash in my entire life, not even as an infant, wondering if this is a yeast infection or a jock itch type thing (which I have never had either). I have bought less restrictive underwear and awaiting for them in the mail. I am thinking it is because I was applying the beeswax balm, and the heat which produced a rash, combined with the hot weather and restrictive underwear, however not sure what kind of rash. Thank you for your response.

What type of medication do I use for a jock itch type? Over the counter powders creams, like Lomtrimin? Preventive, less restrictive clothing and avoid the beeswax balm?

Brief Answer:
Try a topical antifungakl cream for 2 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Exactly. You may try an otc antifungal e.g lotrimin cream. Use it twice daily for 2-4 weeks.
Once the condition resolves in about 2-4 weeks, you may then use an antifungal dusting powder (e.g lotrimin powder) in groin folds, twice daily throughout summers,. This would keep the groin folds dry as well as being antifungal, it would also prevent the fungus from growing again.
Beeswax should be avoided because it is occlusive and therefore would encouragethe fungus to grow.
Loose, light weight clothing is an essential part of the general managment apart from bathing twice daily, specially if it is hot and sweaty.
