default
Posted on Fri, 12 Sep 2014
Question: i have a bright red rash on my left backside. It is horribly itchy. it came from nowhere and goes from about an inch above my waist to two inches down my thigh. I went to Dr. yesterday and she gave me a shot but it has not helped. the itching is driving me nuts. there are no blisters, just a flat red rash. nothing new in laundry, or eaten. Sometimes the itching is almost a stinging sensation.

Hello dear,

Kindly give me some more details, so that I can have a better idea.

1)When did it start-how many days back and the exact time(after getting up from bed, bathing, house cleaning etc)
2)Do you have any other features like fever/malaise/nausea etc?
3)Is it painful?or itching alone?
4)Are you a diabetic or having any other medical illnesses?
5)Did you suffer with chicken pox in the past?
6)If possible, kindly upload a good quality picture of the rash.

Waiting for your reply,
Thank you.

Wednesday evening about 10PM I was reading and all of a sudden I started itching. Thought how could I have a mosquito there. The itching got worse quickly. I went to a mirror to check what was going on and saw the rash. No fever or nausea. It is not painful, just a stinging sensation sometimes, itching always. I am not diabetic, I have high blood pressure and fibromyagia. Yes I have had chicken pox, I thought of shingles also, but no blisters just a flat rash. I will try to figure out how to send the picture.

Brief Answer:
Allergic rash

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

So what you got is only an allergic rash, though we are not able to spot the allergen.
As it did not respond to benadryl, we need to administer intravenous steroids, along with anti-histamines, followed by oral anti allergic medications for a few days. Your doctor will guide you in this.

Meanwhile, you can apply calamine lotion on the rash, and take anti histamines tablets like pheniramine maleate or levocetirezine once for temporary relief from itching. Note that these drugs may cause some sedation.

Wishing for a faster cure,
Thank you.
