Suggest Treatment For Irritated Stomach And Bowel

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: I seem to have an irritated stomach and bowel in the past week or so, usually after dinner in the evening. Have been lying on my stomach to accelerate rehab of back inflammation. Causes: I just finished using naproxen for about a month to treat an inflamed hip or lower back area. Have been drinking ginger/lemongrass tea hoping this would treat the irritated stomach/bowel. However, have never taken lemongrass before. Could I be allergic to lemongrass? Or is this likely a reaction to long use of a nit-inflammatory? How do I treat this?

Brief Answer:
could be NSAIDs induced gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There could be a number of causes for your complaints. Most common from compiling with your history suggests NSAIDs induced gastritis. NSAIDs causes irritation of stomach mucosal lining. Later on when stomach acid is released then it causes irritation & discomfort. If a patient comes to my clinic with similar complaints then i usually give following combination of medical & general advises:

> General:
- Take fresh fruits & juices.
- take frequent smaller meals
- high fiber diet
- take a walk in the evening for 30-45 mins. it will keep you fresh and healthy.
- ginger/lemongrass tea is good for health. normally it causes no harm but you may stop it to observe if your symptoms are because of it.

AVOID:
- fatty & spicy food
- carbonates drinks
- smoking & alcohol (if you do)
- heavy meal at night

>Medical (you'll may have to visit your local doctor to get a prescription):
- Sucralfate suspension thrice a day for 7 days
- omeprazole one daily for 10 days

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
